One of the main worries I have had with this rebuild is the potential lack of oil supply during the initial start-up of the engine. To overcome the risk of starvation to the rocker assembly an adaptor was made so that oil could be pumped through the whole head unit. After priming the pipe was connected to the filter housing which had already been filled with oil. | |
The adaptor was made from a 3/8" bolt, drilled through the head to a depth exceeding the oil banjo position and cross-drilled at the appropriate point. The banjo was sealed using fibre washers and the oil was injected using a standard oil-gun. Care should be exercised to avoid over-pressurising the assembly. The operation was useful in highlighting several banjo connections on the engine 'V' that required further tightening. |
