Some of the main bearing caps would not budge when the screwdriver was inserted down the oil passage. I made this extractor from a 1/4" bolt and a piece of 1/8" x 1.5" steel strip - see below. | |
The pragmatist's puller revealed. The bridge height is 3/8" and the centre hole was also cross-drilled at 45 degrees to allow the insertion of the bolt into the cap. The section of bolt that passes into the aluminium cap has the thread ground away both to avoid damaging the cap and to make room for the tang to be curled through to the intereior cavity.

This is the number 1 main bearing bolt for retaining its cap. With the nut removed the bolt just pushed out of the crank nose (if the starter dog is removed). To the left is the complete bolt - 7.5 inches long. | |
