Sump pan removed. The screwdrivers are holding open the two anti-surge flaps. Although the inner surface is covered in a nasty black film there is very little sludge in the sump. One or two shiny pieces of metal will need investigating.
The brass pipe carries oil from the strainer , in the centre, to the oil pump. I wonder what horrors are beneath the rear cover plate?
