Timing cover fitted.  The clearance between the cover and damper face is less than 1/8".  Despite the cover coming from a different engine the bottom flanges mated perfectly.  The only point of note is that the bottom 'A' side (forward-facing) stud has a hollow locating dowel inserted before the nut is attached.
R-R PIII - sump & timing cover Sump on.  No problems (unless I have forgotten something).  There are three hollow locating dowels: one each on the rear 'A' and 'B' corners and one on the front 'B' corner.
R-R PIII - x-shaft gear & bits

Distributor drive gear, Woodruff key and shim.

Before installing the gears the hollow cross-tube was filled with oil.  This will help reduce the filling time when the engine is started.

R-R PIII - x-shaft key It looks filthy but is not.  The shim, 'W', needs inserting before the key 'K'.  The masking tape at 'M' is to cover the oil tube so that the key is not lost when it is dropped.  The cavity for the distributor body was also blocked off for the same reason.
R-R PIII - gear on x-shaft Gears installed, nuts tightened and pinned.  The two end plugs screw up tight and are sealed by aluminium washers
