The damper is loosely fitted to the mandrel. Two pin punches are used as pivots for a lever to compress the damper springs, which is quicker than fitting the Test Bar.

There are two concentric springs in each aperture. Note the corrosion on the outer springs. All springs will be replaced before re-assembly. |

When one set of springs is removed the opposing set will relax and drop out, which allows the rear element of the damper to slide down the mandrel. |
